HEAL MIND, BODY, & SPIRIT
WHAT IS BRAINSPOTTING?
Brainspotting is an innovative therapy using aspects of EMDR, mindfulness, and brain and body-based therapies.
Sarah uses Brainspotting to support clients in uncovering and working through subconscious patterns that may be disrupting their happiness, wellbeing, or ability to function—whether in the home or in life more broadly.
Often our “core wounds” reveal themselves in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. By staying curious and exploring beneath the surface, we open the door to genuine healing and lasting positive change.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The modality of Brainspotting utilizes the fact that our eyes and brains are intricately woven together. Vision is the primary way that humans orient to our environment, and signals sent from our eyes are deeply processed in the brain.
In a brainspotting session, we activate your specific ‘issue’ by feeling into your memories and sensations in your body. Then by identifying a spot in your visual field where this activation is particularly felt, we allow your innate instincts to release stuck information while locking on that brain spot for a period of time.
WHY DO I NEED IT?
Talking about our desires and issues is essential to the process of growing as a person, and that in itself is healing, but language processing and thinking take place in the neocortical brain (logical thinking), and this is not where our emotions, instincts, or dysfunctional programming are stored. Our deeper selves stem from our “subcortical” brain: the more primitive part of the brain.
With Brainspotting, we contact this subcortical area of our system through the eyes via the retina using focused eye positions. Mindfully staying curious about what comes up for us allows us to release stuck memories, emotions, and blocks.
Disclaimer: Life-Style-ist offers brain-body-based life coaching. It is not a psychological therapy, nor will we work to resolve medically framed pathologies. Clients affected by severe trauma or clinically diagnosed pathologies can get great results from brainspotting but require a referral to a licensed brainspotting therapist. There is no shame in this! I highly encourage you to seek out this work and clear your trauma! This is a modality that works.
